Newtimber Place is a Sussex moated house, built of flint and brick with a roof of Horsham stone. The original house was probably built by Richard Bellingham's son, who was Sheriff of Sussex in 1567.
A special feature of the house is the 18th Century Etruscan style wall paintings
in the hall, and the moat which is fed by natural springs and is 50 foot wide in
places.
There is also a Georgian dovecote in the grounds.
Visits to the house are by guided tour only, These last approximately half an
hour, and include the hall, dining room, drawing room and library.
Thursdays May - August 2-5 p.m. by appointment only.

The garden is open on Sunday 31st August from 2-5:30 pm in aid of the National Garden's Scheme. Admission £3.50, Children free. Plant stall and Teas.
The house is situated 7 miles north of Brighton.
Nearest Station is Hassocks (4 miles).
By car:
From London: Take the A23 towards Brighton. Take the Pyecombe exit (signposted Hassocks), turn right at the T junction, then go first left and over the bridge over the A23. Turn right at the T junction, and rejoin the A23 northbound. Turn off at the next junction, signposted A281 Henfield. Go over the roundabout, and at the first crossroads, turn right signposted Newtimber. (you can turn round at the Poynings roundabout, if you miss this crossroads). The house is at the end of this lane.
From Brighton: Take the A23 northbound, and then take the exit onto the A281 signposted Henfield. Go over the roundabout, and at the first crossroads, (you can turn round at the Poynings roundabout if you miss this crossroads) turn right signposted Newtimber. The house is at the end of this lane.
